04 September 2024, London: Park Square Capital (“Park Square”), one of Europe’s leading private credit investors, today announces the successful final close of European Loan Partners II and associated vehicles (“European Loan Partners II Programme”) at €3.4bn of investable capital for European direct lending, a 50% increase over the previous vintage.
The cornerstone of the European Loan Partners II Programme is the successful joint venture between Park Square and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (“SMBC”) which closed at €2.8bn of investable capital, a 40% increase over its predecessor fund. The joint venture between Park Square and SMBC is one of the most successful partnerships between a bank and a private credit fund in Europe, having made more than 50 joint transactions since the first fund launched in 2017.
The European Loan Partners II Programme takes sole and lead lender positions in European mid-market businesses, focusing on direct, senior secured and unitranche loans. It leverages the combined origination platforms of both Park Square and SMBC and invests in high-quality, defensive, private equity backed businesses in Europe. Recent realisations include the Ambassador Theatre Group, Trescal, and MBCC Group. The Park Square team is led by partners Osvaldo Pereira, Axel Wehtje and Tancrede Terlinden.
The Programme attracted a broad mix of investors, including commitments from sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, insurance companies and private wealth investors across Europe, the US and Asia, from new and existing investors.
Robin Doumar, Managing Partner at Park Square, said: “We would like to thank our investors for their strong support and confidence. There continues to be a significant pipeline of mid-market opportunities in the direct lending space in Europe, and we are primed to capitalise on our track record of supporting companies across market cycles and delivering attractive returns to investors.”
Dan Matthews, Head of EMEA Leveraged Finance at SMBC, added: “We are delighted to announce this new programme which furthers our successful partnership with Park Square. The two institutions have a well-established track record of working together to deliver a range of direct lending solutions for European mid-market companies.”
